Without a working transmission, your car won’t run properly. A transmission service will not only help your car to go — it will deliver a smoother ride in the process.
Your car’s transmission is what transfers all the power from your engine to the wheels. It’s one of the most important systems in your vehicle; and also one of the most complicated.
Your transmission needs to be serviced once in a while in order to continue operating at peak performance. At R & R Auto Systems, we can quickly and efficiently handle this vital maintenance task for you.
What is a transmission service, and when do you need one?
A transmission needs some form of lubricant to shift gears. In manual transmissions, this is often conventional gear oil. However, in automatic transmissions we have a specific kind of fluid called (you guessed it) “automatic transmission fluid,” or “ATF” for short. ATF is a special fluid, because it acts as both a lubricant and a coolant for your gears.
When we service a transmission, we change out your old transmission lubricant for new fluid, and replace your transmission’s filter (if it has one). Basically, a transmission service is like an oil change for your engine — except it’s for the transmission.
Since Las Vegas has such a hot climate, we typically recommend that you have your transmission serviced every 36,000 miles. However, if you detect any of these issues before your next service is due, then bring your car in early:
- You notice that transmission fluid is leaking from your vehicle
- Your “check transmission” warning light comes on
- You smell a burning odor when you run the car
- Your gears slip when you try to shift them up or down
